The Divine Heroism of Lord Rama

As part of our 10-day series leading to Rama Navami, we now reflect on the second divine quality of Lord Rama, Veeryavaan, true heroism.

In the previous reflection, we saw how Lord Rama’s noble character naturally attracted the hearts of all. Yet what makes His personality truly extraordinary is not just the presence of one virtue, but the rare combination of many. Strength alone may be admired, courage may be respected, but strength guided by righteousness and compassion is truly rare. In Lord Rama, this harmony of qualities is seen in perfection.

This heroic nature is vividly revealed during His time in the forest, as described in the Valmiki Ramayana.

In the depths of the forest, a formidable challenge arose. The demons led by Khara and Dushana, accompanied by an army of thousands, advanced with fierce intent. In the face of this overwhelming force, Lord Rama stood alone, calm, composed, and unwavering.

What followed was a remarkable display of courage and divine strength. With unmatched skill and determination, Rama defeated the entire army, protecting the sages and upholding dharma. His heroism was not driven by pride or anger, but by a deep sense of duty.

This is the essence of Veeryavaan, not merely physical strength, but the courage to stand for what is right, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Lord Rama’s heroism is rooted in service, protecting the righteous and acting according to the Lord’s will.

In Krishna consciousness, strength is not something we possess independently. Real strength comes from the Lord, and when one acts in alignment with religious principles, that strength naturally manifests. Lord Rama shows us that true heroism is not just in power, but in becoming an instrument in the hands of the Divine.
