Sri Srivasa Pandita Disappearance Day will be observed on 10th July 2026, on the Krishna Paksha Dashami (10th day of the waning moon) in the month of Ashadha. It is the day when Srivasa Thakur, one of the most intimate associates of Lord Chaitanya left his body. On this sacred occasion, devotees lovingly remember the life, teachings, and devotional service of this great Vaishnava and pray for his mercy.

In the Vaishnava tradition, both the appearance and disappearance days of great devotees are considered equally auspicious. While an appearance day marks their arrival in this world to serve the Lord, a disappearance day marks their return to the Lord's eternal abode after completing their manifest pastimes. Rather than a cause for sorrow, it is an opportunity to remember their extraordinary devotion, glorify their service, and pray to follow in their footsteps. By glorifying the Lord's devotees, we also please Lord Krishna, for His devotees are most dear to Him.

Who is Srivasa Pandita?

Sri Srivasa Pandita, an eternal associate of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and an incarnation of Narada Muni, appeared in Srihatta (present-day Sylhet, Bangladesh) in the home of the pious brahmana Jaladhara Pandita. Later, he and his brothers settled in Navadvipa, where they regularly associated with exalted devotees. Sri Srivasa Pandita is also revered as one of the Pancha-tattva, representing the Lord's pure devotee (bhakta).

Srivasa Angan: The Birthplace of the Sankirtan Movement

One of Sri Srivasa Pandita's greatest contributions was offering his home entirely for the service of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. His residence, known as Srivasa Angan, became the sacred birthplace of the Sankirtana Movement. It was here that Mahaprabhu, along with Lord Nityananda, Advaita Acharya, Gadadhara Pandita, and His intimate associates, gathered to perform ecstatic congregational chanting of the holy names of the Lord. These transcendental kirtanas marked the beginning of a movement that would eventually spread the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra throughout the world.
