Purushottam Adhik Maas 2026: Understanding Purushottam

During this sacred Purushottam Maas, we are presenting a special 5-part series on Chapter 15 of Bhagavad Gita, Purushottam Yoga. In this part, we will understand verses 16-18.
As this sacred month is known as Purushottam Maas, these verses become especially important because here Lord Krishna directly explains the deeper Purushottam Maas significance and why He is called Purushottam, the Supreme Person.
Two Types of Living Entities
Krishna first explains two kinds of living beings, Kshara and Akshara. Kshara refers to the conditioned souls within the material world who are bound by birth, death, old age, and suffering. Akshara refers to the liberated souls who are free from material bondage and situated in the spiritual reality.
Who is Purushottam?
But Krishna then explains that beyond both of these is the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself -Purushottam. Unlike ordinary living beings, Krishna is never controlled by material nature. He is the supreme maintainer, the source of both the material and spiritual worlds, and therefore is celebrated as the Supreme Person, Purushottam.
Our Relationship with Krishna
These verses beautifully remind us of our eternal relationship with the Lord. Much of our frustration in life comes from trying to become the controller and enjoyer of this temporary world. Real peace begins when we understand our natural position as eternal servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Through these verses, Krishna reveals His supreme position as Purushottam, the Supreme Person and ultimate shelter of all living beings. By remembering Him, hearing His teachings, and practising devotion, one gradually rises above material entanglement and moves closer to the eternal spiritual reality.
