During this sacred Purushottam Maas, we are presenting a special 5-part series on Chapter 15 of Bhagavad Gita, Purushottam Yoga. In this part, we will understand verses 19 & 20.
Understanding the Supreme Lord
In these concluding verses of Purushottama Yoga, Lord Krishna reveals the essence of the entire chapter. Krishna explains that one who understands Him as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, without doubt, is truly wise and understands the real purpose of all knowledge.
Throughout this chapter, Krishna explained the temporary nature of the material world, the journey of the soul, and His position as Purushottam, the Supreme Person. There are conditioned souls within the material world and liberated souls beyond it, but Krishna is beyond both categories because He is the Supreme Lord and maintainer of everyone.
The Bhagavad Gita teaches that we are not the controllers or enjoyers of this world, but eternal servants of the Lord. Real peace and happiness begin when Krishna once again becomes the center of our life.
The Most Confidential Knowledge
Krishna describes this knowledge as the “most confidential” because the highest perfection of life is not just material success or intellectual knowledge but becoming devoted to Him with sincerity and love. Through chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, reading Bhagavad Gita, associating with devotees, and practising bhakti-yoga, a person gradually becomes purified and moves closer towards Krishna.
Just as darkness automatically disappears in sunlight, ignorance and confusion begin to disappear when one sincerely takes shelter of Krishna consciousness.
These final verses beautifully conclude Purushottama Yoga by reminding us that the ultimate success of life is to revive our forgotten relationship with Krishna and eventually return back to His eternal abode.
