Purushottam Adhik Maas 2026: The Journey of the Soul

During this sacred Purushottam Maas, we are presenting a special 5-part series on Chapter 15 of Bhagavad Gita, Purushottam Yoga. In this part, we will understand verses 7-11.

The Soul and Material Nature

In the previous part, Krishna compared this material world to an upside-down banyan tree and explained how we become entangled in temporary desires and attachments. Now, Krishna explains the journey of the soul within this material world.

Krishna says that every living being is eternally His part and parcel. However, when the soul tries to enjoy separately from Him, it becomes conditioned by material nature and struggles within this temporary world.

Understanding Reincarnation

These verses explain the changing of the body, or reincarnation, one of the most important discussions from the Bhagavad Gita. According to our consciousness, desires, and results of our actions, the soul continuously travels from one body to another. Srila Prabhupada strongly emphasized this knowledge and even described it as the “easy journey to other planets.” Through our actions and consciousness, we may rise to higher planets, remain on earthly planets, go to lower species of life, or completely transcend material existence and return back home, back to Krishna

Human life is therefore extremely valuable. Every action brings consequences, and as long as we identify only with the body, we remain bound to the cycle of birth and death. Most people cannot understand this subtle journey of the soul through ordinary vision, but Krishna explains that it can be understood through spiritual knowledge and self-realization.

Freedom Through Bhakti Yoga

Through chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, reading Bhagavad Gita, and practising bhakti-yoga, our consciousness gradually becomes purified. We begin to realize that we are not the body, but eternal souls connected to Krishna, and this realization ultimately frees us from the endless cycle of repeated births
