Krishna Reveals the Universal Form to His Mother

One day, Balaram and the other boys told Yashoda that Krishna had eaten clay. Concerned, Yashoda inquired whether it was true. Krishna denied the accusation and insisted, “They are lying. If you don't believe Me, then check My mouth.”

The Vision of the Universe

When Krishna opened His mouth, Yashoda was stunned. Inside, she saw the entire universe—the planets, elements, oceans, mountains, time, and even herself with Krishna in her arms. Overwhelmed by this divine vision, she questioned whether she was dreaming, hallucinating, or experiencing mystic illusion.

Realization and Reverence

Then she thought, “It may be cosmic mystic power attained by my child, and therefore I am perplexed by such visions within His mouth. Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is beyond the expression of consciousness, mind, work and philosophical speculation.” She realized it was by the Lord’s energy that she thought Krishna was her son and Nanda Maharaj her husband, and she offered obeisances to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, praying for His protection.

But Krishna expanded His internal energy, restoring her pure maternal affection. At once she forgot all philosophy and embraced Him simply as her beloved child, the Supreme Lord appearing as her own son. Such pure, intimate love—even toward the Supreme Lord—is extremely rare and is a hallmark of the residents of Vrindavana.

The Special Blessing of Nanda and Yashoda

Though Devaki and Vasudeva were Krishna’s biological parents, they could not enjoy His childhood pastimes. This unique blessing was granted to Nanda and Yashoda due to a boon given by Lord Brahma to the divine couple Drona and Dhara in a previous life. To fulfill that boon, the Supreme Lord appeared in their home as their son, performing charming childhood pastimes to bring transcendental joy to the hearts of all in Vrindavana.
