Honouring the Lord’s Devotees

On the auspicious appearance day of Lord Hanuman, observed this year on 2nd April 2026, we are reminded of a profound truth in bhakti, the Lord is most pleased when His devotees are properly honored. To please the Lord, one must understand His heart, and no one exemplifies this better than Hanuman ji.

Hanuman ji is the eternal servant of Lord Sri Rama, known not only for his extraordinary strength but for his deep devotion. From leaping across the ocean to find Mother Sita to executing the Lord’s mission in Lanka, he performed unimaginable tasks. Yet, he never claimed credit, always attributing everything to Lord Rama’s mercy. This teaches us that when actions are performed in devotion, even the impossible becomes possible.

No Seva is Small

At the same time, Hanuman ji shows that no service is ever small. Whether performing great heroic deeds or accepting the simplest seva, his only desire was to serve. His eagerness and sincerity define the true spirit of bhakti.

Understanding the Lord’s Heart

Hanuman ji is also bhāva-jña, one who understands the heart of the Lord. In the Ramayana, when Lord Rama met Sugriva, proper respect was not initially offered to Lakshmana. This displeased Lord Rama. Understanding this immediately, Hanuman ji made the necessary arrangements without being instructed. Such sensitivity in service reflects the highest level of devotion.

The Sundar Kand, describing the glorious pastimes of Hanuman ji, is among the most loved sections of the Ramayana and is often recited by devotees with great devotion, expressing their deep affection for him. From children who admire his heroic deeds to devotees who seek his strength and protection, Hanuman ji remains dearly loved by all.

On this sacred day, let us imbibe Hanuman ji’s mood, to serve sincerely, eagerly, and with the desire to truly understand and please the Lord’s heart.
